One Of Peak District's Oldest Inns Reopens Following Major Restoration

If you've walked or cycled the Tissington Trail recently, you may have noticed fresh signs of life at one of the Peak District's best-known old inns. After an extensive restoration, The New Inns has officially reopened, bringing a historic coaching inn back into use for the first time in years.
Dating back to the 18th century, the building once welcomed travellers, traders and farmers making their way between Ashbourne and Buxton. The latest refurbishment has focused on preserving that history rather than replacing it, carefully restoring original floorboards, traditional tiling and many of the building's historic features while creating a modern restaurant, bar and 30-bedroom hotel.
Perfectly positioned just moments from the Tissington Trail, the reopening gives walkers, cyclists and visitors another reason to explore this corner of the Peak District. It's also within easy reach of Dovedale, Tissington village and some of the national park's most popular walking routes, making it an attractive base whether you're planning a weekend away or simply looking for somewhere to stop for lunch after a day outdoors.
Inside, guests will find a choice of en-suite bedrooms alongside larger self-catering apartments for longer stays. Downstairs, the restaurant and bar are serving breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, with menus built around classic British dishes, local ales, wines and a relaxed country pub atmosphere.
The New Inns is owned by the family behind nearby The Okeover Arms, who have spent years building a reputation for welcoming hospitality in the southern Peak District. Their aim with the latest project has been to breathe new life into a much-loved historic building while ensuring it remains somewhere locals and visitors alike feel comfortable dropping into, whether that's for a pint, Sunday lunch or a few nights exploring the Peaks.
With another historic building returning to life, it's encouraging to see one of the Peak District's long-standing inns beginning a new chapter rather than disappearing into history. For anyone planning a walk along the Tissington Trail this summer, it may be worth adding to your list.
