A well-known independent sweet shop in Baslow, just minutes from Chatsworth, has been put up for sale by its owners after a “fantastic few years” running the business.

Sweet Genes, a small but busy shop known for its mix of traditional sweets, local products, ice cream, coffee and light food, is now looking for new owners to take it on.

Owners Steph and Sarah said the decision had not been an easy one.

“This little shop has meant a lot to us - from getting to know so many of you, to building something we’re really proud of in such a special spot,” they said.

The pair have built a loyal following among both locals and visitors, growing turnover by around 25% during their time at the shop. Much of that has come through word of mouth, particularly for party sweet cones, alongside early commercial relationships including work with the Hilton Hotel.

They say the decision to sell comes as other commitments continue to grow, meaning they can no longer give the shop the time and energy it needs.

Sweet Genes is being sold as a leasehold business and is described as fully set up, with what the owners believe is “plenty of room to grow”, particularly given that no formal advertising has been carried out to date.

They are now hoping to find a new owner who can take it on and build on what’s already been created.

“We’d genuinely love to see someone take it on who’s excited to put their own stamp on it and continue its story,” they said.

The shop, described by the owners as a “teeny tiny shop with a whole lot of heart”, has become a familiar stop for visitors heading to and from Chatsworth, as well as a regular treat spot for locals.
