Level Up Your Summer Cocktails With The Bakewell Boot

Sunlit outdoor table with a cherry-garnished cocktail, cherries, and a small tart beside a red-and-white flag backdrop.

There's something supremely satisfying about creating a recipe that feels as though it could only have come from one place. If Bakewell pudding ever needed a summer cocktail, this would be it.

The Bakewell Boot brings together Bakewell Pudding Gin from The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, Amaretto, London Dry Gin and cloudy lemonade for a drink that's unmistakably Derbyshire. It's quick to make, looks rather lovely in a balloon glass and manages to capture those familiar cherry and almond flavours without feeling overly sweet. We should probably confess it took a few attempts (purely in the name of research, obviously), but we think we've landed on something pretty special.

We'd serve this beauty at a barbecue, pour for friends on a warm evening or sip while nervously watching England in a World Cup semi-final. Fresh cherries (we sprayed them with edible gold), a twist of lemon and a tiny St George's flag are optional, although we rather like the extra flourish.

The Bakewell Boot

Prep time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 40ml Bakewell Pudding Gin

  • 30ml Amaretto

  • 15ml London Dry Gin

  • Premium cloudy lemonade

  • Plenty of ice

To garnish

  • Fresh cherries

  • Lemon twist

  • Mini St George's flag (optional)

Method

  1. Fill a large balloon gin glass with plenty of ice.

  1. Pour in the Bakewell Pudding Gin, Amaretto and London Dry Gin, then give everything a gentle stir.

  1. Top with chilled cloudy lemonade and stir once more, just enough to combine the ingredients without losing the fizz.

  1. Finish with a lemon twist hooked over the rim, add a couple of fresh cherries and, if you're feeling patriotic, a miniature St George's flag.

Then sit back, take a sip and enjoy.

Good Life Tip

The Bakewell Pudding Gin and Amaretto do almost all the work here, so there's no need for sugar or syrup. The result is much closer to a Bakewell pudding than you'd expect, with plenty of almond, sweet cherry and just enough citrus to keep everything fresh.
